How to obtain (and search for) a marriage certificate in Portugal

To search for a marriage certificate in Portugal, we need the data below:

• number and year of registration of marriage
• full name of married couple
• name of parents of married couple
• naturalness (place of birth)

The certificate may be digital (electronic format) or on paper.

Public service fee

The Portuguese public service charges a fee of €10 to issue the birth certificate. If the applicant wants a certified seat, the fee is 20€.

Office fees

The office will submit the fee proposal for arranging the dispatch of the marriage certificate in Portugal and sending it to the recipient. If necessary, the office will also arrange for the certification and apostille of the document.

Other services

In addition to issuing the marriage certificate, our office can provide translation from Portuguese to another language and certify the respective translation. As already mentioned, it is also possible to provide the apostille of the document.

Postage (paper)

If the client wishes to receive the document on paper, the office will need to request a quote from the courier company (e.g. DHL). The price will be calculated according to the weight and distance of the shipment. If the client wishes to receive the birth certificate by email (as a pdf), there will obviously be no such expense.
